SCHOOL-AGE CARE

SCHOOL-AGE  CARE:

With the increasing number of households where both parents work, more children come home to, or spend time alone in, an empty house every week, some for several hours in the night. An empty house can bring temptation to a child - temptation that makes parents cringe.

There are no hard  statistics on how many local children arrive home after school to an empty house. Parents are reluctant to discuss it for fear of reprisal from law enforcement agencies. And, they do not want others to know because it could cause additional danger for their youngsters.

 247 CARE provides before and after school care services for parents with latchkey children. The phrase "latchkey" originates from the early 19th century, when children in a similar situation would wear the key to their home tied to a string they wore around their neck and were responsible for their own care.

 Studies show that when serious problems with childcare quality persist, children are at a greater risk of poor development and school failure.  247 CARE is here to ensure every child an equitable start in life.

OUR SCHOOL-AGE SERVICES INCLUDE:

  • Help with homework (tutoring);
  • Organized use of unstructured time;
  • Provision of Meals;
  • Bedtime routine (bathing, reading, etc.);
  • Transportation and Escort;
  • Other support requested by the family such as: light housekeeping, shopping, laundry, errands & meal preparation.

Educators recognize the benefits associated with good quality school-age care. Many teachers feel that student difficulties in school are associated with them being left on their own after school for extended periods of time. Providing good quality before and after school care for children helps improve their self-esteem, social skills, and academic performance. Good quality childcare plays a key role in children's development and school readiness.

247 CARE knows how critical it is for families to have good quality childcare arrangements in place.  Without good quality care of the young, the consequences can be dire. Without supervision, latchkey children stand a better chance of falling into the 'wrong' company. Because of an increasing lack of attachment felt to the family, teens may search elsewhere for friendship, advice and experiences.

247 CARE knows the obvious financial issues that most families face in deciding on the best solutions for their childcare dilemmas. 247 CARE is here to help families as they endeavor to do what is in the best interest of their children.
